APARTMENT COMPLEX SLAYING

Authorities identify 17-year-old victim

The 17-year-old boy shot and killed Monday morning during a confrontation has been identified as Johnny Boyd Eagletail of Las Vegas.

Las Vegas police responded about 5:45 a.m. to the Wellington Meadows Apartments, at 9550 W. Sahara Ave., near Fort Apache Road, after receiving reports of gunshots.

Officers arrived to find Eagletail with a gunshot wound to his torso. He was taken to the University Medical Center, where he died a few hours later.

Police said Eagletail had been confronted by a male who asked whether he knew anything about damaged vehicles at the complex. Eagletail then pulled a knife and advanced toward the male.

Police said the person then fired one shot at the teenager.

The shooter cooperated with police and was not arrested. The case was submitted to the Clark County district attorney's office for review, police said.
