HENDERSON INCIDENTS

Man held on charges of molesting girls

Henderson police have arrested a 30-year-old man suspected of fondling at least two girls in movie theaters.

Jon Jacobs faces charges of annoying or molesting a minor, a misdemeanor, and lewdness with a minor younger than 14, a felony, police said.

Henderson police arrested Jacobs on June 13 after an incident in the theater at Sunset Station, officer Todd Rasmussen said. A 14-year-old girl was at the movies with her mother when a man sat down, fondled the girl and walked out, he said.

Police were called and arrested Jacobs in the hotel parking lot, Rasmussen said.

Detectives later linked Jacobs to the fondling of a 12-year-old girl May 25 at Green Valley Ranch Resort movie theater, he said.

Police believe more girls may have been targeted by Jacobs, who was being held at the Henderson Detention Center on $95,000 bail.

Anyone with information can call Henderson police at 267-4750.

$100,000 IN COSTS

Electrical fire damages northwest valley home

An electrical fire at a northwest valley home caused more than $100,000 in damage Friday morning.

Firefighters responded to calls at 8:30 a.m. that smoke was billowing from the house at 5340 El Capitan Way, near Ann Road.

Las Vegas Fire Department officials said a woman at the house was outside at the mailbox when she heard her husband scream that the house was on fire.

When she went inside, he was throwing water on storage boxes that were on fire in the laundry room. She then went outside and got a garden hose to douse the fire, but the smoke was overwhelming, the Fire Department said.

Firefighters arrived and quickly put out the fire.

Investigators determined that the blaze was accidental and caused by electrical wiring in the laundry room.

The husband was treated for minor smoke inhalation.

EASTERN AND ROBINDALE

Motorcyclist killed in collision with car

A Henderson man died Friday when his motorcycle hit a car turning left in front of him, Las Vegas police said.

Victor Dotson died at the scene of the 6:45 a.m. collision at Eastern Avenue and Robindale Road.

His 2008 Harley-Davidson motorcycle was headed west on Robindale when a 2006 Mazda 3 headed east turned in front of him, police said. The motorcycle fell on its side and hit the car, throwing Dotson from the bike, police said.

The car's driver, Vinh Trinh, 28, of Las Vegas was unhurt.

The investigation was ongoing.

TRUCKEE RIVER FIND

Floating mannequin was really a corpse

Fire and rescue squads thought a body floating in the Truckee River in downtown Reno was a mannequin, so they decided to initiate a training exercise.

But when they reached the object Friday morning, they found it was a dead woman.

Police are trying to determine how she died and how she got in the river.

Lt. Bob McDonald said there were no obvious signs of foul play. He said the black woman was 23 years old.
