Coroner identifies driver killed in crash

A 23-year-old man who died after losing control of his car and crashing into a light post earlier this week was identified as Timothy E. Roscoe Jr., the Clark County coroner's office said Monday.

Roscoe crashed about 5 a.m. Sunday on Cheyenne Avenue west of Durango Drive, Las Vegas police said. He was driving a 2001 Ford Mustang when he veered off the north edge of the road.

A passenger, 20-year-old Marciela Cortez-Solano, was taken to University Medical Center and treated for moderate injuries.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

No West Nile virus found in state this year

Nevada health officials say so far there's been no cases this year of West Nile virus.

Still, officials are urging preventive measures to slow the spread of mosquitoes and the potentially fatal disease.

Many health districts drop chemicals into mosquito-prone wetlands areas to prevent mosquito larvae from growing into adults.

Health officials say people can help by eliminating standing water where mosquitoes breed.

They also should wear long sleeves and pants at dawn and dusk and wear insect repellent to avoid being bitten.

In Nevada, the first human case of West Nile was identified in 2005. Since then, 210 people have been infected, and three have died.
