DOLORES DRIVE SHOOTING

Information sought in Friday morning slaying

A Las Vegas man was shot and killed near Washington Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard early Friday.

Las Vegas police said Tuesday they were called out to the 800 block of Dolores Drive about 12:40 a.m. about a person who had been shot.

A man had knocked on a person's door claiming that his friend had been shot. The man then got into a car and fled the scene, according to police.

When police arrived, they found 23-year-old Jesse Avila dead in the street from multiple gunshot wounds.

Police identify victim of single-vehicle crash

The 34-year-old man who died early Saturday after crashing his sport utility vehicle into a light pole in Henderson has been identified as Jimmie Brooks Cork of Las Vegas.

Cork was driving east on Lake Mead Parkway in a Jeep Grand Cherokee about 2:10 a.m. when he crashed into the pole in the median near Boulder Highway.

The Jeep then struck several trees and boulders in the median before overturning and sliding across the westbound lanes of Lake Mead and coming to a stop in the shoulder of the road.

He was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene, according to Henderson police.
