FATHER SOUGHT
Amber Alert canceled for two young boys
An Amber Alert for two boys has been canceled in California and Nevada, although their whereabouts are still unknown.
California authorities on Monday continued to search for the man who allegedly shot his estranged wife after she dropped off their two young sons on Father's Day.
Jose Luis Ortega, 26, is alleged to have shot the boys' mother as many as 12 times before taking off with the boys, police said, but she was able to speak while being taken to the hospital.
The pickup he used to flee his home in the Sunland area of Los Angeles was found in Lancaster on Sunday night, but it was empty, Los Angeles police Officer Karen Smith said.
The Amber Alert issued for the boys -- 5-year-old Diego Fabian Ortega and 3-year-old Luis Gonzalo Ortega -- was canceled when the truck was found.
Their mother, whose name was not released, was in serious condition Monday after surgery.
Ortega is an itinerant construction worker, police said, and should be considered armed. Officials believe he is headed to Mexico.
20-YEAR-OLD MOTORIST
Driver cited after eight pedestrians hit on Strip
Four citations were filed against a Las Vegas motorist accused of running into eight pedestrians as they walked on the Strip near MGM Drive early Sunday morning.
Rome Jefferson, 20, was cited by Las Vegas police for offenses including unsafe turning, leaving the scene of an accident and driving without a license.
Witnesses and police said Jefferson's vehicle swerved and struck a group of pedestrians at about 2:30 a.m. while they waited at an intersection. He then fled.
Eight pedestrians were hospitalized for minor injuries.
Police said Jefferson turned himself in after two of his passengers, who were also cited for failing to report the crash, spoke with authorities.
SINGLE-VEHICLE ROLLOVER
Crash near Goldfield kills one, hurts another
One person was killed and another injured in a crash early Monday near Goldfield, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
Authorities say the driver, 25-year-old Simpson Soli, was heading south at about 6:15 a.m.on U.S. 95 when his Honda sport utility vehicle drifted off the shoulder.
Soli overcorrected, causing the car to roll several times.
A 21-year-old woman who was a passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was not immediately released.
