IN BRIEF

CLARK COUNTY HEALTH ADVISORY

Blowing dust expected in area this weekend

Clark County air quality officials have issued a dust advisory for today and Sunday.

Windy weather is expected this weekend, and officials say there's a possibility of blowing dust. Airborne dust can aggravate respiratory diseases such as bronchitis and asthma.

Children, the elderly and people with respiratory diseases in particular are urged to stay indoors during dust storms.

As part of the county's dust-control program, officials are sending notices to construction sites asking work crews to undertake precautions to help prevent blowing dust.

Residents may call air quality's dust-complaint hot line at 385-DUST to report excessive amounts of blowing dust.

Police probe death of woman found in park

Las Vegas police on Friday were investigating the discovery of a dead woman lying under bushes just outside Sunset Park.

The body was found by construction workers near Tomiyasu Lane and Maule Avenue, homicide Lt. Lew Roberts said.

"We have no idea who the woman was at this point," Roberts said.

He estimated that the clothed body had been there about a week and said police had not yet been able to determine the woman's approximate age, ethnicity or cause of death.

The body has been sent to the Clark County coroner's office for an autopsy, Roberts said.

Traffic congestion is expected on Red Rock Canyon's 13-mile Scenic Drive from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. today because of marathon events, the Bureau of Land Management said.

About one-quarter of the width of the road for the one-way drive will be coned off for runner safety, it said.

The lane restriction will not allow passing during the race.
