BOULDER HIGHWAY HOTEL

Driver whose car hit, killed bicyclist sought

Las Vegas police are looking for the driver of a car that struck and killed a man on a bicycle late Sunday night in a hotel parking lot in the 4300 block of Boulder Highway.

Police said the 51-year-old man was riding his bicycle east through the parking lot of the Town & Country Manor hotel when the car hit him at a high rate of speed. The man, whose name was not released, was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

Police said the bicycle had a flashing rear light and reflectors. Witnesses told police the car sped away after the collision.

The car was described as white and small, possibly a compact, with damage to the front end, hood and windshield. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Detective Corey Moon at 828-3538 or Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.

OFF GIBSON ROAD

Driver in fiery crash into ditch identified

A Henderson man killed when his car crashed into a drainage ditch and caught fire over the weekend has been identified as Timothy James Brown.

Although the Clark County coroner's office identified Brown, 55, it had not yet determined the cause of his death Monday.

Brown was driving a 2005 Mazda south about 11:40 p.m. Sunday on Gibson Road near Caption Way when the car left the road and struck a chain-link fence surrounding the drainage ditch that runs parallel to the road, Henderson police said.

The car then passed under the fence and drove on the edge of the culvert until it rolled over. It slid on its roof until catching fire, police said.

Brown, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only occupant in the car, police said.

SATURDAY ARGUMENT

17-year-old identified as victim of shooting

A teenage boy shot to death over the weekend at an apartment complex near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Washington Avenue was identified Monday as Leshonta Matthew Jr. of Las Vegas.

Matthew, 17, was killed by a gunshot wound to his face and neck, the Clark County coroner's office said. He was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Las Vegas police responded to reports of gunshots fired at the complex, at 900 Doolittle Ave., at 2:48 p.m. Saturday.

Police determined that Matthew and other people were in the courtyard of the complex when an argument broke out and shots were fired. Several people fled the scene, police said.

RUPTURED GAS LINE

Backhoe accident killed Henderson man

A construction worker killed when a backhoe ruptured a natural gas line last week has been identified as Brian Gene Buntt of Henderson.

The Clark County coroner's office said Buntt, 39, died from burns from a fire.

The accident occurred about 1:20 p.m. Thursday on a vacant lot near North Fifth Street and Deer Springs Way, North Las Vegas police said. Two other workers suffered minor injuries.

Gas service to the surrounding area was not affected by the accident.

Buntt and other workers from Tejas Underground, a contractor with offices in North Las Vegas, were digging trenches on the vacant land to lay utility lines.

The Nevada Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident.
