10 TO 25 YEARS

Killer of homeless man sentenced to prison

District Judge Michael Villani on Tuesday handed down a sentence of 10 to 25 years in prison to the killer of a 37-year-old homeless man.

Gary Broetje, 42, had pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the April 23 stabbing of Randy Alloway at a homeless encampment in North Las Vegas.

Authorities said Broetje, also homeless at the time, stabbed Alloway because the two had fought the night before over a bag of snack chips at a nearby Salvation Army shelter.

"I'm remorseful and regretful," Broetje told Villani.
