38-year-old sentenced to prison in slaying
A volunteer firefighter who pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter for killing a man was sentenced to three to 12 years in prison on Monday.
Donald Alan Hartzog, 38, pleaded guilty to shooting to death 41-year-old Troy Nenstiel on Feb. 19, 2007. Hartzog was facing murder charges in connection with the slaying in Cold Creek, northwest of Las Vegas near Indian Springs.
"He took a life he didn't have a right to take," District Judge Stewart Bell said in delivering the sentence.
Authorities said Hartzog shot Nenstiel five times, including twice in the back. Hartzog shot the victim when Nenstiel was helping a friend, Jamie Denning, move from Hartzog's home.
Denning was Hartzog's ex-girlfriend.
SINGLE-VEHICLE ROLLOVER
Arizona woman who died in crash identified
The southern Arizona resident killed in a traffic accident early Saturday 20 miles south of the Mohave County community of Wikieup was Sonia Escobar, 35, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
The driver, Jose Eduardo Jackson, 18 and passenger Cassandra Padilla, 15, both of Tucson, were transported to hospitals for treatment of their injuries after the 6:20 a.m. single-vehicle rollover.
Authorities are trying to determine why Jackson lost control of the vehicle that rolled in the median of U.S. Highway 93.

Miner killed over weekend identified
Authorities in Nevada said a miner at an underground gold mine was killed over the weekend when he was struck by a haul truck.
The accident occurred Saturday night at the Getchell Underground Mine in Humboldt County.
The victim was identified as Michael Millican, a 43-year-old contract worker employed by Idaho-based Small Mine Development. He was from Detroit, Ore., SMD spokeswoman Cheryl Gmirkin said.
Mine officials said all other employees were evacuated from the mine after the accident. Federal and state inspectors were investigating the cause of the accident.
