CALIFORNIA CROPS
Subfreezing weather worries citrus growers
Citrus growers in California's Central Valley are on edge after two nights of subfreezing temperatures that reminded them of last winter's cold snap, which ruined the state's orange crop.
Wind machines that pull warmer air from above were turned on for the first time this season Friday night, growers said.
The National Weather Service said temperatures in the region dipped into the upper 20s overnight Friday and Saturday but were likely to climb above freezing Sunday night.
STORE ROBBERY
Wedding band stolen from 83-year-old
California authorities are searching for a robber who took an 83-year-old woman's wedding ring during a jewelry store heist in Ventura County.
The woman was working Saturday afternoon at the Thousand Oaks shop when the man pointed a gun at her and demanded her diamond ring.
The robber also took a separate ring and a loose diamond.
