IN BRIEF
INTERSTATE 15 FATALITY
19-year-old woman who died in crash ID'd
Desirae Lyn Cassedy of Las Vegas was identified as the woman who died when her vehicle rolled over on Interstate 15 in California, some 10 miles from the Nevada border last week.
Cassedy, 19, was traveling north on the interstate near Bailey Road and Mountain Pass when the accident occurred around 6:15 p.m. on Oct. 27.
She wasn't wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the car, according to the California Highway Patrol report.
LEAK CLOSES FREEWAY
Grease trap truck driver turns self in
The driver of a truck that leaked grease onto Interstate 15 on Wednesday, causing several accidents and a two-hour closure of the freeway's northbound lanes, has turned himself in to authorities.
The Nevada Highway Patrol did not release the driver's name.
Authorities aren't sure if he was aware of the accidents and do not know if they will file charges.
Witnesses saw the driver of the Grease Trap Services truck pulled to the side of the freeway near D Street around 5 p.m. on Wednesday trying to plug a leak on the rig before continuing north.
The driver turned himself in on Friday after the owner of the company heard news reports of Wednesday's accidents, Highway Patrol Trooper Kevin Honea said.
"If you know you are involved in a crash it is your responsibility to stop and render aid," Honea said.
TWO-ALARM FIRE
Families evacuated from duplex homes
Two families were evacuated from a duplex on Friday morning after a two-alarm fire caused at least $100,000 worth of damage to their homes southeast of Flamingo Road and Maryland Parkway.
Investigators are unsure what started the fire at 1600 E. Rochelle Ave.
"It was fast moving and very hot," said Scott Allison, spokesman for the Clark County Fire Department.
When firefighters arrived at the duplex at the Andover Apartments around 10:15 a.m., the flames were shooting out of the roof, Allison said.
The building's wood siding and common attic space fueled the blaze, according to the Fire Department.
Two people were treated for smoke inhalation, but no one was seriously injured, Allison said.
