FATAL SHOOTING

Man found in truck dies after shooting

A man was found shot in a pickup Wednesday afternoon in North Las Vegas and later died at University Medical Center, police said.

The death was the 26th homicide in North Las Vegas this year, North Las Vegas police officer Sean Walker said.

Police found the man, who officers said appeared to be in his mid-30s, in the truck in the 300 block of Reeco Avenue, near Lake Mead Boulevard and Losee Road, about 1:30 p.m., Walker said.

Police were called to the scene after the truck crashed into the front of a residential property. The gunshot victim was the only person in the pickup, Walker said.

Walker didn't know how many times the man was shot or where his wounds were. The victim's name was not released by authorities Wednesday.

HIGHWAY CRASH

Driver dies in rollover on U.S. Highway 95

A man died Wednesday morning when the SUV he was driving overturned about 15 miles north of Las Vegas on U.S. Highway 95.

He was southbound on the highway in a gray Ford Explorer at 10:40 a.m. when the vehicle drifted off the road onto the center dirt median, according to Trooper Kevin Honea, spokesman for the Nevada Highway Patrol. When the driver turned the steering wheel to get back on the highway, it caused the Explorer to flip, Honea said.

Preliminary evidence indicated alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, Honea said.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the wreck. His two passengers were taken to University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, Honea said.

The dead man's name was withheld by authorities Wednesday.

GUNFIRE NEAR MALL

Victim of shooting near mall identified

A man who died Friday in a shooting near the Boulevard Mall has been identified as 28-year-old Erick Robinson.

An official with the Clark County coroner's office said Robinson died from a gunshot wound to the neck. The coroner's office wasn't able to determine where Robinson's city of residence was, which might mean he was homeless, the official said.

Gunfire broke out at 1:20 a.m. Friday on the 1000 block of Sierra Vista Avenue, near Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas police said. Robinson was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where he died.

Witnesses told police the shooting was drug-related.

RUNNING OF RED LIGHT

Crash claims lives of elderly man, woman

An elderly man and woman were killed Wednesday night when a teenage girl driving an SUV slammed into their car, causing it to roll over at Valley Drive and Ann Road, North Las Vegas police said.

The couple was westbound on Ann in a Ford Focus around 7:30 p.m. when, according to witnesses, the woman, heading north on Valley in a Ford Explorer, ran a red light and hit the Focus, police said.

The SUV driver was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries and is expected to be charged in connection with the crash.
