STRIP HOTEL
Police say man fired gun in parking garage
Police arrested a man Sunday morning after he fired several shots in the Caesars Palace parking garage.
Police said the man was thought to be intoxicated when he fired several rounds about 6:45 a.m. toward the ceiling on the third floor of the Strip resort parking garage.
The man did not aim the weapon at anyone, and no one was wounded in the incident, police said.
RARE CONFIRMATION
Shooting spurs plans to search for grizzlies
When a Tennessee hunter mistakenly shot and killed a male grizzly bear in the remote terrain north of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness last month, it marked the first time that anyone had confirmed a grizzly in that part of Idaho in more than six decades.
Grizzly experts from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, with state officials in Idaho and Montana, are plotting excursions next summer to see whether other grizzlies have taken up residence in the Bitterroot.
The incident has potential long-term implications for logging and ranching and plans to reintroduce grizzlies into the Selway-Bitterroot Ecosystem.
RENO AIRPORT
Smoke in cockpit forces small jet to land
A small commercial jet flying from Spokane, Washington, to Los Angeles was forced to land at Reno-Tahoe International Airport after the cockpit filled with smoke.
Airport spokesman Brian Kulpin said the plane carried about 75 passengers, none of whom was hurt.
Kulpin said the source of the smoke was unclear, and the plane was being studied by mechanics.
The plane is owned by Seattle-based Horizon Air.
HAWAII BEACH
Jury awards $856,000 in dog bite incident
A jury has awarded $856,000 to a mother and her 21/2-year-old son who was bitten by a Rottweiler on the beach in Honolulu.
The Hawaii Circuit Court jury decided Friday that owner Mariko Bereday was negligent for failing to keep her dog on a leash at a beach on Mother's Day in 2005.
Bereday denied that her dog bit the boy and said afterward that photos of his injuries were faked.
She said she plans to appeal.
