NORTH LAS VEGAS MAN

20-year-old killed in shootout identified

David Sanchez, 20, of North Las Vegas was identified by the Clark County coroner's office as the man who died in a shootout Tuesday morning.

North Las Vegas police said Sanchez and a security guard exchanged gunfire at Brundage-Bone Concrete Pumping, 2410 E. Gowan Road, after Sanchez tried to steal the guard's SUV about 6 a.m.

Sanchez was shot several times, the coroner's office reported. The guard, whose name has not been released by police, suffered minor injuries and was released Tuesday afternoon from University Medical Center.

Although the incident is still under investigation, preliminary findings show the guard was acting in self-defense, police said.

They would not say whether the guard had a concealed-weapon permit. Brundage-Bone contracts with a firm that provides unarmed guards.
