TREATED AT UMC

Firefighters save man from apartment blaze

Las Vegas firefighters pulled a 47-year-old man from a smoke-filled apartment near Washington and Eastern avenues late Thursday, authorities said.

Firefighters arrived at 1112 N. 21st St. just after 10 p.m. and found heavy smoke coming out of the front door of a studio apartment attached to a home, fire spokesman Tim Szymanski said.

The man was found on the floor just inside the front door and barely breathing. He was rushed to University Medical Center with third-degree burns on his arms and second-degree burns on the upper half of his body, along with severe respiratory burns and smoke inhalation.

The fire was contained to the living room couch, where it is believed to have started.

Investigators believe the fire started accidentally, but the investigation continues.
