DRIVER FACES CHARGES

Man killed, two others injured in accident

A Henderson man is in custody on vehicular manslaughter charges after an accident Wednesday in which one man was killed and a woman was injured.

Police say Jaxson Rogers ran a red light about 9:20 p.m. while speeding through the intersection of Spencer Street and Pebble Road, in the southeast valley.

The Toyota Scion that the 27-year-old was driving collided with a 2000 Nissan Maxima in the intersection, sending the Scion into a house on the corner. No one in the home was hurt.

Rogers then climbed over his passenger, Jason Bocuzzo, 20, of Henderson, and started half-walking and running away from the scene only to be picked up by a passing patrol vehicle, police said.

Rogers later was determined to have suffered serious injuries in the wreck along with Divina Ada, who was driving the Maxima. Both were treated at St. Rose Dominican Hospital, Siena campus, police said.

Bocuzzo was airlifted to University Medical Center but died a short time later.

As police began investigating the wreck, they learned that the Scion had been reported stolen to Henderson police on April 16.

Rogers then was charged with vehicular manslaughter, felony hit-and-run involving death, reckless driving involving death and possession of a stolen vehicle.

HIT BY A VEHICLE

Motorcyclist struck, killed on Beltway

A 43-year-old Henderson motorcyclist died Thursday morning after being hit by a car on the Las Vegas Beltway near Valley Verde Drive in Henderson.

The motorcyclist, riding a 1999 Harley Davidson westbound on the beltway, suddenly braked about 6:45 a.m. to avoid traffic. The man lost control of the motorcycle and was thrown from it, said trooper Kevin Honea of the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Other vehicles slammed on their brakes to avoid hitting the motorcyclist, but a woman driving a 2001 Hyundai Tiburon sedan lost control of her car and hit the motorcyclist, Honea said.

The motorcyclist, whose name was not released, died at the scene.

DOUSED WITH GASOLINE

Man who burned self to death identified

The 41-year-old man who killed himself by setting himself on fire at a gasoline station just south of the Stratosphere on March 31 was Timothy Wong of Los Angeles, according to the Clark County coroner's office.

Firefighters were called about 5:10 a.m., after Wong bought gasoline from the Circle K at 2308 Las Vegas Blvd. South, north of Sahara Avenue, poured it on himself and ignited it.

Police and bystanders doused the flames with fire extinguishers, but Wong suffered third-degree burns and died after he was taken to University Medical Center.

BONANZA ROAD ACCIDENT

Collision kills driver, injures passenger

The driver of a Toyota Tercel was killed and his passenger critically injured after the sedan was struck by a tractor trailer at the intersection of Bonanza Road and City Parkway, Las Vegas police said.

The wreck occurred slightly before 9 p.m. when, according to witnesses, the Toyota was heading west on Bonanza and ran a red light at the intersection with City Parkway, Sgt. Tracy McDonald said.

The tractor trailer was heading north on City Parkway, McDonald said.

The driver of the Toyota was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was rushed to University Medical Center in critical condition.

A preliminary investigation indicated that alcohol might have been a contributing factor in the crash, McDonald said.
