Explosion sends three workers to hospitals
A gas explosion at a luxury condominium construction site on the Strip sent three workers to local hospitals, including one with burns on 30 percent of his body.
The explosion occurred at about 11:30 a.m. at the Sky Las Vegas tower condominium project, just north of Circus Circus.
Scott Allison, spokesman for the Clark County Fire Department, said the workers were on the fourth floor working in a swimming pool pump room when a gas line that was being vented somehow ignited, causing the explosion.
One worker received second- and third-degree burns over 30 percent of his body and was taken to University Medical Center.
A second worker received less serious second-degree burns and was also taken to UMC. A third worker, who had minor burns, went to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.
A fourth worker was treated for his injuries at the scene of the blast.
Allison said there was no damage to the site. The state Occupational Safety and Health Administration agency is investigating the explosion.
