INCIDENT INVESTIGATED

Two men die in crash in North Las Vegas

Two men died Saturday night in North Las Vegas when one of the men slammed his speeding vehicle into the back of the other's.

North Las Vegas police said the crash occurred about 11:30 p.m. on the 4000 block of Lake Mead Boulevard near Rancho Drive.

Police said a 42-year-old man was speeding east on Lake Mead in a 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche when he slammed into the back of an eastbound 1994 Chevrolet Beretta.

Both vehicles spun out of control, severed two street lights, two trees and a fire hydrant and finally stopped more than 300 feet from the site of the collision.

Authorities were testing the blood alcohol levels of both drivers to see whether alcohol played a part in the crash.

Sean Walker, a spokesman for North Las Vegas police, said police were investigating whether the 42-year-old was involved in a hit-and-run incident earlier in the night on Rancho.

Suspect in hit-and-run sought in fatal crash

A man fleeing from a hit-and-run incident in a pickup caused a four-vehicle crash early Sunday morning that left a 22-year-old man dead.

The driver of the pickup fled on foot from the collision and is still at large.

Las Vegas police said the suspect was in a minor hit-and-run crash on Sahara Avenue at Maryland Parkway. He was fleeing in a 1996 GMC pickup when he sideswiped a 2004 Chevrolet Impala and 2004 Ford Sport Trac before rear-ending a 2004 Chevrolet Classic about 2 a.m.

A passenger in the GMC who was hanging out of the pickup was killed when the vehicle struck a concrete wall on the right side of the road.

The GMC continued westbound but became disabled on Sahara near Wyoming Avenue. The driver then fled on foot.

Police said no one else was injured in the incident.

Police gave a general description of the driver of the GMC pickup as a Hispanic male, about 22 years old, 5-feet-8-inches to 5-feet-10-inches tall, 160 to 180 pounds, whose dark clothing was covered in blood after the accident.
