Police officer who shot teen during traffic stop is identified

The Las Vegas police officer who shot a 17-year-old boy after he backed into the officer during a traffic stop this week has been identified as David Corbin, 47, a seven-year veteran of the department.

Corbin was injured when his motorcycle was dragged about 50 feet during the stop at Russell Road and Tenaya Way on Monday. The officer had pulled over the teen, who has not been identified, for speeding, police said.

As the officer was getting off the motorcycle, the suspect backed into him with a Nissan Titan pickup, according to police. The officer then fired at least once at the suspect.

The truck had been reported stolen this month, police said. The teen drove away and abandoned the truck on a residential street. Police followed a trail of blood to find and arrest the teen.

He was taken to University Medical Center in stable condition. The officer was also hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Palms, N9NE Group trade allegations in lawsuit

For nearly a decade the relationship was warm and profitable between the Maloof family, owner of the Palms, and Michael Morton, one of the city's most successful casino restaurant and nightclub operators.

Things went south 10 months ago, when it was announced Morton would open the restaurant and wine bar La Cave at Wynn Las Vegas.

Morton, principal of the N9NE Group, has operated several businesses for George Maloof, since 2001.

The lawsuit against the Palms by Morton's N9NE Group, alleges Palms President Paul Pusateri demanded Morton terminate Andy Belmonti, president of two N9NE Group companies involved with Palms businesses.

The lawsuit charges the Palms breached the parties' operating agreement, but the most serious allegations are made by Palms attorney Don Campbell in his response.

The Palms alleges Belmonti was disloyal and also used Palms employees on the Wynn Las Vegas job.

Campbell also asserts the group settled for $460,000 in an employment discrimination lawsuit involving eight people. The Maloof family unknowingly paid the settlement, court papers show.

District Judge Elizabeth Gonzalez scheduled a status hearing for Nov. 22.
