Highway agency weighs site for bridge over Colorado River

The communities of Bullhead City, Ariz., and Laughlin are expected to know by September whether the Federal Highway Administration will sign off on Bullhead Parkway as the preferred site for a second bridge linking the communities.

Federal highway staff ruled out the previously preferred site of Riverview Drive. The highway administration ruled the bridge would have a more than minimal impact on adjacent Rotary Park in Bullhead City, thereby killing the Riverview alternative.

The bridge is slated for completion in 2014 at a cost of $50 million to $60 million.

Both communities currently use a bridge over the Colorado River below Davis Dam.

Woman struck, killed by truck is identified as 29-year-old

Lake Havasu City police in Arizona have identified the woman who was killed Sunday after she lay down in the street outside her home and was struck by a vehicle.

Sgt. Joe Harrold said Glorianna Begay, 29, died at the scene of the 1:49 a.m. incident in the 2900 block of North Kiowa Boulevard.

Harrold said Begay and her husband had argued about finances. At some point, he said, Begay put herself in the street and was struck by a 1992 four-door Buick.

The driver was not injured or cited, Harrold said.

Harrold said police responded to a domestic quarrel between the couple at their home earlier this year. Alcohol consumption by Begay is thought to have been a factor.
