ARGUMENT REPORTED

Couple found dead in possible murder-suicide in NLV home

A man and a woman in their 30s were found inside a North Las Vegas home on Monday afternoon in a possible murder-suicide.

North Las Vegas police Sgt. Tim Bedwell said officers first responded to the home in the 300 block of Copper Pine Avenue, near North Fifth Street and Tropical Parkway, at 1:19 p.m. A caller had reported an argument between the two people.

But when officers arrived at the home, no one answered the door, Bedwell said.

At 2:06 p.m. police were again called over a fight in progress between the two people. The caller was a third party in the home who told dispatchers that one person was possibly deceased.

Officers arrived and found the two people deceased inside in what is believed to have been murder-suicide, Bedwell said.

Police did not release the names of the two people or the nature of their relationship.

MANDATED BY STATE LAW

Panel backs funds to restore state veterinarian position

The Nevada Board of Examiners has endorsed more than $131,000 in contingency funds to restore a state veterinarian position that was inadvertently cut during February's special legislative session.

Department of Agriculture Director Tony Lesperance told the panel Monday that the position, one of four veterinarians employed at the agency, was mistakenly put on a list of vacant positions that were to be left unfilled and eliminated during budget cut discussions.

Lesperance said the job of veterinary medical services administrator is mandated under state law.

The board comprised of Gov. Jim Gibbons, Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto and Secretary of State Ross Miller approved the funding, which now goes to the Legislature's Interim Finance Committee for final action.
