NORTH LAS VEAGS INCIDENT

7-year-old killed in motorcycle crash ID'd by coroner's office

The 7-year-old boy who was thrown from a motorcycle in a North Las Vegas neighborhood Wednesday night has been identified as Victor John Camacho.

A medical examiner with the Clark County coroner's office determined he died from blunt chest trauma suffered during the accident.

The boy was sitting behind his father on a 2001 Yamaha motorcycle, North Las Vegas police said. The 31-year-old father's 8-year-old son was sitting in front of the father. Only Victor was wearing a helmet, a plastic novelty helmet that was not lawful for protective use, police said.

Police said the three were riding in their neighborhood near Clayton Street and Tropical Parkway. At 6:40 p.m., on the 6100 block of Dawn View Lane, a Pontiac sedan that was parked on the curb made a U-turn in front of the motorcycle, which struck the car. Victor was thrown from the motorcycle and later pronounced dead at University Medical Center.

Investigators think the Pontiac's 19-year-old female driver did not see the motorcycle. The father and the 8-year-old did not suffer serious injuries.

North Las Vegas police Sgt. Tim Bedwell said no citations have been issued. Both drivers have submitted blood samples to investigators, he said . Their names were not released.

MAN KILLED

Fatal shooting at gun club site investigated by LV police

A man was found dead at a Las Vegas shooting park Thursday afternoon.

Las Vegas police said the unidentified man, in his late 40s or early 50s, was found at 12:30 p.m. at a target shooting area inside the Desert Sportsman's Rifle and Pistol Club, 12201 W. Charleston Blvd., west of Desert Foothills Drive.

The man died from a gunshot wound, spokesman officer Bill Cassell said.

Homicide detectives are investigating the fatality, which Cassell said is routine in any unnatural death. Detectives are interviewing people who were at the park when the shooting death happened.

Police were unsure whether the death was a suicide, an accidental shooting or a homicide, Cassell said.

"Something happened. We don't know what," he said.

SPEED POSSIBLE FACTOR

31-year-old woman killed in Arizona traffic accident

Speed is suspected as a factor in a fatal crash Wednesday in Desert Hills, Ariz., just north of Lake Havasu City.

Mohave County sheriff's office spokeswoman Trish Carter said Anna Louise Decker, 31, lost control of the 1994 Ford Ranger she was driving at about 2:18 p.m.

Carter said the vehicle rolled after it failed to negotiate a curve on Retail Center Boulevard. She said Decker, who was partially thrown from the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
