A Mohave County jail inmate who escaped corrections custody last Wednesday was caught late Monday afternoon in downtown Kingman, Ariz.
Mohave County Sheriff Tom Sheahan said Darren Eugene Morrisson, 26, of Bullhead City was arrested in a craggy wash about 5 p.m.
Morrisson was being transported from the jail to a hearing when he slipped free of his handcuffs and shackles inside the transport van, according to sheriff's office spokeswoman Trish Carter. She said he bolted past a detention officer when the door of the van was opened near the courthouse.
Morrisson's wife, Ashley Morrisson, 24, was arrested the day after the escape. She is accused of conspiring to assist her husband by buying survival items and a backpack. Darren Morrisson remained free until a tip led deputies to visit an apartment complex where a man matching his description fled on foot as officers approached.
Sheahan said there were no reports of injuries during the apprehension.
Morrisson faces escape-related charges on top of the original charges of assaulting his wife.
