Inquest into Costco shooting set

A jury will convene Sept. 3 for the coroner's inquest into the fatal shooting of Erik Scott, 38, who was killed by three Las Vegas police officers earlier this month outside the entrance of a Summerlin Costco.

Scott, a West Point and Duke University graduate, had a permit to carry concealed weapons. Police said he refused police orders to put his hands up and drop to the ground, and instead, pointed a pistol at three officers.

Police were initially called to the Costco on a report a man was acting erratically and had a gun.

A jury will determine if the officers' actions in the shooting were excusable, justifiable or criminal.
