It’s new, that Yahoo

The Yahoo home page got a makeover, and it's now easier to get to places other than Yahoo with their customizable navigation.

You’ll need a Yahoo user ID to take advantage of the features. I tried the site and easily added and reordered some of my most-visited sites, reviewjournal.com, Gmail, Facebook, Twitter, The Wall Street Journal, and some others. I haven't used the remade site enough yet to know whether I'll return to the Yahoo home page to jump off to these sites.

A nice feature of the new navigation is a pop-up window of the site appears when you mouse-over its link. This lets users preview the page before clicking. It looks good on first try, but it's too soon to know whether I'll use this feature as a time-saver.

My current habit is to load about a half-dozen of the sites I visit repeatedly through the day into browser tabs on Firefox. I can easily jump from site to site and have used Yahoo primarily for personal e-mail and for checking news headlines. The Review-Journal is a member of the Yahoo Newspaper Consortium, which means our staff can sell advertising inventory on Yahoo and Yahoo will point readers to our site in many content areas.

I'm curious to know your thoughts about Yahoo’s changes. Do you use Yahoo regularly, and if so, how do you like the customizable navigation?
