Judge hands out sentence of 15 to 40 years in 2004 killing

District Judge Elizabeth Gonzalez followed the sentencing recommendation of attorneys Monday and sentenced Jerry G. Salas to 15 to 40 years in prison.

Salas was 28 when authorities say he hired self-described hit man Jim Bass Holden to kill Gerardo Ojeda-Garcia, 34, over a drug dispute.

Police found Ojeda-Garcia shot dead at an apartment in the 3300 block of Civic Center Drive in North Las Vegas in March 2004.

Salas pleaded guilty last year to burglary while in possession of a firearm and second-degree murder.

Holden has been sentenced to life without possibility of parole.
