JURIST’S HUSBAND PLEADS NOT GUILTY

REVIEW-JOURNAL

The husband of embattled District Judge Elizabeth Halverson pleaded not guilty to attempted murder charges Wednesday in District Court.

Edward Halverson, 49, told District Judge David Barker that he understood the charges against him. He appeared in court wearing a navy blue prison uniform and shackles around his wrists.

He is scheduled to go to trial on Dec. 1.

Authorities said Edward Halverson tried to kill his wife, Elizabeth Halverson, when he struck her with an iron skillet at the couples' home near Tropicana Avenue and U.S. Highway 95 on Sept. 4.

A Clark County grand jury indicted Edward Halverson last week on attempted murder charges.

Elizabeth Halverson spent more than two weeks in the hospital and needed more than 100 staples to close the cuts and gashes on her head.

She is facing a Nevada Judicial Discipline Commission complaint that she mistreated staff and couldn't adequately conduct trials.
