Jury finds man guilty in slaying, $3 robbery

A 28-year-old man accused of going on a month-long crime spree in Las Vegas was convicted of first-degree murder Thursday for killing a man during a robbery.

A jury convicted Eugene Nunnery of shooting to death Saul Nunez Suastegui and robbing several other men in September 2006. Nunnery could be sentenced to death.

Authorities said the robbery, in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Pecos Road near Washington Avenue, netted $3.

Las Vegas police said Nunnery worked with three other men who were booked into the county jail on similar charges.

Authorities said Nunnery and three other men went to the Palm Village Apartments on Sept. 22, 2006, and robbed a handful of men, including Suastegui. Another man, Cezar Carrizales, was also grazed in the head by a bullet during the robbery, and two others were shot at, according to a police report.

County prosecutor David Stanton told the jury that Nunnery shot Suastegui execution style.

At the time of Nunnery's arrest, police said he and his group were responsible for a series of robberies and home invasions and he was linked to two other homicides.

Nunnery is facing felony charges in several cases in District Court.
