Jury selection continues for Mack murder trial

RENO -- With less than half the potential jurors needed passing muster after three days of jury selection, the judge in Darren Mack's murder trial said Wednesday his optimism was waning about the ability to give Mack a fair trial without moving the case elsewhere.
District Court Judge Douglas Herndon said he would rule this morning on defense attorneys' latest motion to move the trial to Las Vegas because of extensive pretrial publicity of the formerly wealthy Reno pawn shop owner accused of murdering his wife and shooting the judge handling their bitter divorce.
Mack, 46, has pleaded not guilty and not guilty by reason of insanity to charges of murder and attempted murder.
