Killer apologizes at sentencing
KINGMAN, Ariz. -- A man who killed his friend when he was high on methamphetamine apologized to the victim's family during his Wednesday sentencing in Mohave County Superior Court.
Brian MacBean, 33, who was convicted through a plea agreement of first-degree murder in the October 2007 death of Todd Chapman, 37, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison.
"I hate myself for taking the life of a good person," Chapman said. "I don't understand what drove me to do what I did."
Prosecutor Jeremy Huss said MacBean provided a chilling confession about how he choked and stabbed Chapman before bashing him in the head with a hammer in Chapman's home in Lake Havasu City.
Judge Bob Moon imposed the sentence mandated in the agreement.
MacBean must serve 25 years before he becomes eligible for parole and enjoys no guarantee that he'll ever be released from prison.
