Kindling development for the Kindle
In an effort to keep up with the Apple iPad and iPhone as an e-reader, the Amazon Kindle today updated its application for the devices, essentially shooting beyond what it can deliver on its own, limited-function, black-and-white hardware. This means customers using the Kindle app on their Apple devices will get a richer media experience there than on the Kindle.
The Apple devices can deliver video and combinations of video, text and audio. The Kindle is more booklike, with an option to have text read to you as audio, either through a speaker in the device or through your headphones. Some books available on the Amazon store have features that won't play on the Kindle device.
Think of the Kindle app on the iPad or iPhone as the Ted Turner-colorized version. Yes, the old black-and-white classic still exists, but fans are clamoring for more.
Can a color version of the Kindle be far off? Or worse, is the end of the Kindle near?
