Las Vegas’ City Ride bus service ends today

Las Vegas’ City Ride bus service ends at 5 p.m. today, a victim of budget tightening by the city.

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada’s bus routes cover the same or similar routes as City Ride. For information on those routes call 228-7433 or 229-6025, or go to www.rtcsouthernnevada.com.

A review of city operations found that City Ride duplicated existing services. From 2003 to 2008, the annual cost of the program went from $900,000 to $1.2 million, while ticket revenues dropped about 10 percent each year since 2005.

The RTC is also taking over the operation of the Downtown Transportation Center at 300 N. Casino Center Blvd.

City Ride’s route covered downtown Las Vegas and passed the Regional Justice Center, the Charleston Plaza Mall at Charleston Boulevard and Bruce Street, and the Howard Cannon Senior Center.
