Las Vegas, firefighter’s union reach tentative contract

A labor impasse between the city of Las Vegas and the firefighters union could be coming to an end if both sides approve a tentative labor agreement.

The four-year agreement, posted on the city’s website, would provide 1.5 percent raises for firefighters in second and third years and a 2 percent increase in the fourth year.

It would also include a $500 per firefighter, per pay period contribution from the city for health care. Last year when the two sides were negotiating the city offered $400 and the firefighters sought $475.

Spread over four years, the deal would cost the city an additional $7.2 million. The fire department annual budget is $112 million for 2014.

Members of International Association of Firefighters Local 1285 are scheduled to vote on the proposal Monday and Tuesday. The city council is scheduled to consider it Wednesday, July 10.
