A 49-year-old Las Vegas man died after he was hit by a car Thursday while jaywalking across Charleston Boulevard.

Las Vegas police said the man, who has not been named, was crossing at Pecos Road outside of a crosswalk and against the pedestrian traffic signal.

A 2006 Ford Mustang traveling east on Charleston struck the man in the center lane at 12:14 p.m., police said. The man was taken to University Medical Center, where he died.

The driver of the Mustang, 24-year-old Curtis Henderson, stayed at the scene and was not injured.

The incident was the 39th fatal accident in the Metropolitan Police Department's jurisdiction this year.
