Las Vegas police plan DUI checkpoint for Super Bowl Sunday

There will be a DUI checkpoint on Super Bowl Sunday on the east side of the Las Vegas Valley, police announced Tuesday.

Officers will be stopping vehicles between 4 p.m. and 1 a.m. on Boulder Highway at Mayorga Street, according to Metro. They’ll be looking for partiers who had too much to drink while watching the big game.

“These events usually go until about three in the morning,” said Lt. Leonard Marshall, “but we’re starting earlier to cover that party time.”

The checkpoint aims to prevent DUI-related crashes and to increase safety, police said. It’s funded by a federal grant intended to curb drug and alcohol use among juvenile and young adult drivers, but Metro will be looking for anyone behind the wheel who may be imparied.
