Las Vegas SWAT arrest man by force after standoff

Las Vegas police have arrested a man wanted on battery and weapons charges following a nearly five-hour standoff this morning.

Billy Cepero was taken into custody at an apartment complex in the 400 block of Naples Drive, near Harmon and Polaris avenues, at 12:30 p.m. today after an anonymous tip led them to his location at another nearby apartment.

Cepero was wanted on five felony charges, including battery of an officer with substantial bodily harm, ex-felon in possession of a firearm, and discharging a firearm into an occupied structure.

Police received an anonymous tip that Cepero was located in an apartment in the 300 block of East Harmon and officers surrounded the residence. He escaped and fled to an unoccupied apartment on Naples, where he barricaded himself, police said.

SWAT officers were called to the scene. Police would not disclose the tactics they used to apprehend Cepero, but said he was not cooperative and had to be arrested by use of force.
