Las Vegas valley temp hits a mere 60 degrees

Saturday saw the lowest high temperature ever recorded for an Oct. 11 in the Las Vegas Valley, according to the National Weather Service.

The high temperature was a mere 60 degrees, 23 degrees below the normal high temperature for the day. The reading, taken at the Weather Service's station at McCarran International Airport, also shattered the previous record low high of 65 degrees, recorded in 1997.

A low pressure system out of the Gulf of Alaska is to thank for the chilly temperatures, Weather Service meteorologist Barry Pierce said.

"All that cold air from up north came down," he said.

Temperatures are supposed to rise to the mid-80s by the middle of the week. Today and Monday should be breezy with high temperatures in the high 60s to low 70s.
