Leak peek: See BP’s flow-stopping efforts

Watch the efforts to stop the oil that flows from a BP well more than 5,000 feet beneath the surface of the Gulf of Mexico. The Associated Press is streaming the video monitoring provided by BP.

Oil and natural gas have been spewing from a bent pipe since April 20, when an explosion killed 11 workers aboard an offshore drilling rig. The rig eventually sank to the bottom of the Gulf. Earlier Thursday crews successfully cut off a bent portion of the pipe carrying the oil. Efforts to cap the pipe and divert the flow of oil to tankers on the surface are under way.
