Cody Maddox of Boone, N.C., leaps over a mound of dirt Thursday near Echo Road in Mount Charleston's Kyle Canyon. Maddox, who is vacationing in Las Vegas, enjoyed a sunny and breezy afternoon on the mountain, where the high temperature was 66 degrees. Las Vegas had a high of 89 Thursday and a low of 74, a record for the warmest low temperature for that date. Forecasters have issued a high wind watch for today in Las Vegas, saying gusts could reach 50 mph, and a high wind warning for Mount Charleston, where gusts could reach 70 mph. On Saturday, Las Vegas is expected to set a record for the date's lowest high temperature. "We're expecting more than a 20-degree drop from what we saw today," Charles Bell, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said Thursday. He said Saturday's high temperature at Mount Charleston should be in the mid-40s.
