Let’s do lunch

Here’s your chance to not only help Nevada Public Radio but also have lunch with yours truly. Bids are now being accepted at the Western States Public Radio auction and lunch with me is one of the items on the block.

I can't guarantee what the special of the day will be at the Triple George Grill on the day we dine, but I can tell you I'll do my best to share whatever expertise I may be able to offer. Do you want to get smarter on your smart phone? Are you fumbling over Facebook? Does Twitter have you twitching?

I'll never claim to know all there is about anything, but I do know quite a bit about quite a lot in the digital world. I draw the line at the supertechy stuff and I know nothing about programming; in my world, Java is a hot cup of coffee and java beans are what you use to make that beverage.

So, head over to knpr.org, register for the auction and start bidding. There are more than 1,140 items in the catalog now, and the donations keep coming. In addition to bidding on goods and services from Las Vegas, Public Radio stations in Washington, California, Oregon, Utah and Arizona are also part of the fun.

Last year more than 14,200 people visited the auction site — 46 percent of them from Nevada. Overall, the auction visitor count increased 81 percent from 2009’s event, KNPR said in a statement.

The auction closes Saturday. Good luck with your bidding. See you at lunch!
