Liberty’s Tai headed to UCLA

Liberty High School senior defensive end Sam Tai announced in an on-campus ceremony Wednesday he has given an oral commitment to play college football at UCLA.

The 6-foot-4-inch, 245-pound Tai picked the Bruins over a scholarship offer from Arkansas, which was his runner-up. He also had offers from Colorado, Fresno State, Idaho, UNLV and UNR.

The college football signing period does not begin until Feb. 2, but Tai made his announcement early because he will graduate from high school in January and plans to enroll at UCLA with hopes of competing in spring practices.
