LV doctor faces new indictment in Arizona case

KINGMAN, Ariz. -- The Las Vegas doctor who surrendered his medical license for Nevada after his criminal indictment last year is expected to plead not guilty when arraigned today in Phoenix on a new indictment.

Dr. Albert Szu Sun Yeh, 45, was initially named in a 14-count indictment alleging conspiracy, money laundering and assisting a criminal syndicate in the illegal distribution of prescription drugs from his pain management clinic in the northwest Arizona community of Golden Valley.

Doug Lau, the assistant Arizona attorney general prosecuting Yeh, said all of the original counts are included in the expanded 42-count indictment that alleges a broader criminal conspiracy and includes charges of fraud and illegal control of an enterprise.

Lau said Arizona law allows him to change venue from Mohave County to Maricopa County through the new indictment. Defense attorney Kevin Byers did not respond to a request for comment.

Lau said the plea agreement previously entered for co-defendant Brian Espinosa, 55, remains in effect. Sentencing for Espinosa, Yeh's former physician's assistant, will not occur until Yeh's case is completed.
