LV helps pump up Mr. Olympia
September 26, 2008 - 9:00 pm
Not everybody is suffering the housing market blues. Las Vegas' No. 1 tough guy -- indeed the No. 1 bodybuilder in the world -- has earned a pretty penny with investments here in Las Vegas.
Jay Cutler, who might win his third straight Mr. Olympia title at the Orleans Arena this weekend, moved from Southern California to Las Vegas in 2002 for two big reasons: The big-muscle competition is here, but he also bought five properties and sold them all by 2007, before the market crumbled.
Cutler says it motivates him a little to see other hard bodies in our hard-body city.
"I see all these guys in the gym through the winter, and they're training for the pool parties in spring and summer. And a lot of people (at gyms) are in the entertainment industry. You have to look good to make money" in Las Vegas.
No doubt.
Cutler talks at length in today's Neon section about what you, my friend, would have to eat and the weights you would have to lift if you wanted to catch up to his bod of 270 pounds and 3 percent body fat.
MUSIC BEST BETS
Lindsay Lohan's significant other, DJ Samantha Ronson, is slated to make beautiful music at 1 a.m. today (or Saturday morning, however you want to look at it) at Rain at the Palms.
Admission is $30, unless you're a local "lady," in which case you get in free. Long lines for everyone, though.
Yes, Lohan said this week she and Ronson have been dating for nearly two years.
Also, Ronson is a serious turntablist. Try to keep those two things separate in your head.
Foo Fighters play the Hard Rock tonight, while Atmosphere emo-raps or whatever at House of Blues. See more on both shows in today's Neon.
RED CARPETS & PAID CELEBRITY APPEARANCES
The cast of NBC's "Chuck" walks a red carpet at 11:30 p.m. Saturday at Pure nightclub at Caesars: Zachary Levi, Adam Baldwin, Yvonne Strahovski, Joshua Gomez, Sarah Lancaster and others, plus producer McG, who has yet to direct the "Charlie's Angels 3" sequel I'm waiting for.
Perez Hilton shows up at Planet Hollywood's Privé sometime (probably close to midnight) after the club opens at 10 tonight.
The cast of "E!'s" "Sunset Tan" shows up at the Palms pool's "Ditch Friday's" promotion after noon today.
MTV's idiot show "The Hills" brings cast member Audrina Patridge to MGM's pool Wet Republic on Sunday, daytime of course.
WEIRD STUFF
The Palms' Moon stages "Hair Wars 3," where local stylists compete to see who can give people the best punk-rock hairdo. "Project Runway" contestant Stella B. Zotis will be there, if you care. That's at 10:30 p.m. Sunday. Admission for men and out-of-town "ladies" is $40.
Or if you want to pony up $30 ($15 if you've got a student ID), you can draw a naked person during nude drawing classes at the excellent (seriously) Erotic Heritage Museum from 8 to 11 p.m. Limited "seating," ha, ha. (369-6442)
