LV Valley’s 81 a record high

A record high was set in the Las Vegas Valley on Monday when the temperature reached 81 degrees, said a National Weather Service spokesman in Las Vegas.

Brian Fuis of the National Weather Service said the high temperature was recorded at McCarran International Airport at 3:30 p.m. The temperature broke a record of 79 degrees set on Nov. 17, 1981. Also, Monday's high temperature for the day was the second time a recorded temperature exceeded 80 degrees this late in the year in the Las Vegas Valley.

On Nov. 24, 1949, the temperature reached 80 degrees.

Fuis said the warm temperature was caused by a high-pressure system over the Southwest.

Meteorologists anticipate another record to fall today, as the high is expected to reach the low 80s. The record high for Nov. 18 in the valley is 79 degrees set in 1949.
