Mail service gets ready for late filers
The U.S. Postal Service has made special arrangements to help last-minute tax filers in the Las Vegas Valley.
A temporary post office will be set up at Mandalay Bay's Shark Reef for Las Vegas visitors and locals.
Also, April 17 postmarks will be stamped on returns up until midnight at the express lane at James C. Brown Jr. Post Office, 1001 E. Sunset Road.
Its retail windows will be open from 7:30 a.m. until midnight to accommodate customers.
Late collections can be made until 10 p.m. at outside boxes in front of post offices at the following:
• Red Rock Vista, 2449 N. Tenaya Way.
• Spring Valley, 3375 S. Rainbow Blvd.
• Winterwood, 5070 Vegas Valley Drive.
• Meadow Mesa in North Las Vegas, 4904 Camino Al Norte.
• Henderson, 404 S. Boulder Highway.
Postal Service spokeswoman Marilyn Fenimore urged taxpayers to include the address of the proper IRS office on their filing envelope.
"We are receiving letters to the IRS that only have the Internal Revenue Service in the address area with no city or state information. This will delay their mail," she said.
Individuals must file Form 4868 by April 17 to receive an extension until Oct. 15.
The extension is only an extension of time to file and not to pay, IRS spokesman Raphael Tulino said.
