Major bicycle ride gets third organizer in three years

The bicycle ride in Las Vegas on the day after the Interbike trade show in September has its third organizer in three years.

The Sept. 19 ride is now called, "Bike MS: Las Vegas" with Interbike as the presenting sponsor.

In 2013, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada held its final Viva Bike Vegas event after RTC lost $117,000 on the bike ride and ridership dropped by more than 25 percent. Then, the Perimeter Bicycling Association of America Inc. of Tucson, Ariz., took over and held the bike ride in 2014.

But Perimeter Bicycling pulled out after one and done and now the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is partnering with Interbike to put on bike rides of 30 and 50 miles on the Saturday after Interbike week. Bike MS: Las Vegas participants who pay the registration fee and raise the required $100 will receive free entry to Interbike's Customer Appreciation Day at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center on Sept. 18. Registration is at www.bikeMSlasvegas.org
