Make your cheap flights to Miami more than just a port stop

The heat is on in Miami and with it come long days partying at the beach, nights spent dancing away in the clubs and plenty of unique sites to see and tour. Many travelers just use Miami as a port for cruise ships between flights to Florida, but Miami has so much more to offer.
Of course, the No. 1 destination spot in Miami is the beach - any beach for that matter. Miami beach hotels in South Beach are the perfect place to stay if you intend to spend your entire vacation walking, playing volleyball, tossing a Frisbee or catching some rays in the sparkly golden sand. Because Miami is so far south, the ocean water stays a warmer temperature all year long - but if you prefer to swim without getting goose bumps, try planning your vacation for the fall months of September and October, after peak tourist season when the water has been warmed all summer long.
In addition to the sun and sand, Miami is known for the Everglades - acres and acres of swamp, jungle and tall prairie grasses. Home to many species, including 14 rare species, the Everglades are great for exploring and learning about nature. Everglades National Park is a short drive from downtown Miami, and if you're interested in visiting, it's recommend you go between December and April, because during the summer, there's a good chance you might not survive the mosquitoes.
If you're interested in more animal viewing, Jungle Island in Miami gives everyone of all ages a close up and personal view of tropical birds and animals. The park has daily shows and frequently hosts field trips.
After spending all your time in the sun with the animals, a visit to Coral Castle in Homestead just might be a unique diversion to attract your attention. Homestead is about 33 miles southwest of Miami, on the way to Everglades National Park. Coral Castle was built out of coral rock by Ed Leedskalnin, who wouldn't allow anyone to see him work. The castle is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and took 30 years to be built. Audio tours are available.
You can always book your cheap flights to Miami to catch a cruise ship, but next time you do so, make an effort to stay a day or two and enjoy some of the hot offerings Miami has to offer.
