Man, 21, ordered to be tried in heroin death in Carson City

CARSON CITY - A 21-year-old man has been ordered to stand trial in the 2011 heroin-related death of a woman in Carson City.

Judge John Tatro ruled Friday that there was sufficient evidence to bind over Angel Altamirano to Carson City District Court on a second-degree murder charge.

The Nevada Appeal reported Altamirano is accused of giving or selling heroin to 23-year-old Brittany Rubke in October 2011.

According to court documents, she had an adverse reaction that led to her death at a Reno hospital, but it's unknown whether she overdosed or not.

Under state law, a person can be charged with murder for giving or selling a controlled substance to someone who dies from taking the drug.

Altamirano is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 13 in district court.
