Man accused of kidnapping infant

RENO -- Police say a Nevada man took a ten-week-old infant from a house in the Reno suburbs while the baby's mother slept.

Reno police say they jailed 21-year-old Joseph Ray Drummond on suspicion of second-degree kidnapping.

Police say Drummond took the baby and tried to drop it off at another house less than a mile away.

The mother of the infant told police she didn't know the infant was missing because she was sleeping.

She told authorities she had just met Drummond for the first time earlier Saturday.

The Washoe County jail's Web site says Drummond also was being held Sunday on a probation violation. He wasn't immediately known if he had a lawyer.
