Man arrested for throwing fatal punch

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after he punched a man who urinated in front of his girlfriend, say Las Vegas police.

According to the arrest report for William L. Matta, 32, a fight broke out between Matta and Colby Osborne, 42, about 4 p.m. Sept. 1.

Matta told detectives he was walking with his girlfriend and his dog under a bridge at Owens Avenue and Main Street when Osborne, whom Matta did not know, stopped nearby and began to urinate.

Matta told Osborne to have some respect, and Osborne challenged Matta to a fight, the report said.

Because he believed Osborne was going to punch him, he struck first, the report said. Osborne's knees wobbled from the punch and he fell to the ground, hitting his head, the report said.

Matta said Osborne was knocked unconscious and was snoring so he and another man who witnessed the fight began to splash water on Osborne's face.

After several minutes, some other men approached Matta and confronted him about the fight, so Matta left the area, the report said. Osborne was transported to University Medical Center, where he was diagnosed with a severe brain injury. On Friday, Osborne was pronounced dead after showing no brain activity.

When Matta was approached by police several days after the incident he admitted to the fight and said, "All this for a punch?" the report said.

Matta was arrested Sunday and booked at Clark County Detention Center.
